From Manitoba we crossed into Saskatchewan and began a mind numbing drive across the prairies. Saskatchewan and most of Alberta are very flat, the road doesn’t seem to have corners in it, and it is difficult to drive for too long without getting sleepy from boredom. Sue and I changed drivers through the day to battle the monotony. We camped for one night in Saskatchewan at a surprising little oasis in the middle of the prairie. We made up for the previous night with a fire from super dry wood purchased at the campground. We refrained from taking a selfie in the middle of the bright yellow canola fields, which apparently became a thing in 2022, to the distress of the farmers who get their crops trampled.
July 11, 2022
The next day we crossed the border into Alberta. We were on our way to the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller which is Canada’s best dinosaur museum.

After the Royal Tyrrell museum, we went to visit the hoodoos outside of Drumheller. They were quite disappointing. They are a lot smaller than they look in the pictures and they charge you $5 to see them.
We also toured an old coal mine near Drumheller, which was a center for coal mining in the early twentieth century.
We ended the day with dinner high up on the Alberta prairie. This is why we have a camper on a capable truck. We went off-road a bit to get high up, where the wind kept us cool on a hot day.

After one more night in Drumheller, we headed for the Rocky Mountains, but first we stopped in to see an interesting outdoor theater.
