May 24, 2023 – Yaxha National Park
Today we went to Yaxha National Park, another Mayan ruin. We explored the site, serenaded by howler monkeys and supervised by spider monkeys. Yaxha is only accessible via dirt road and I even had Lucy in 4WD at the end, although there were 2WD vehicles there. Nonetheless, we had an adventure getting there and there were maybe ten other people there. The ruin itself was quite interesting. It is built next to a lake and I walked down the very same steps the Mayans did to get to the docks on the lake. Tomorrow we do Tikal.
