Costa Rica Pan-American Highway

Santa Ana National Park

July 1, 2023 – La Cruz

Today we crossed from Nicaragua to Costa Rica. We did this border crossing completely without helpers. Checking out of Nicaragua was just as hard as checking in. It took us 3 hours to check out of Nicaragua, most of that spent standing in lines, sweating in the heat. Nicaragua has a well-earned reputation for its understaffed borders. It really didn’t bother us too much though. It doesn’t help anything to get worked up about such things. That is just the way it is, and we got it done without helpers.

We already love the area of Costa Rica that we are in, which is next door to the Santa Ana National Park. We counted a line of approximately 200 trucks waiting to enter Nicaragua. It literally must take days for them to cross the border. Checking in to Costa Rica took about 30 minutes, although we got caught in the regular afternoon rainstorm while checking in. We are planning to be in Costa Rica for about 4 weeks. Crossing borders is always stressful so we rewarded ourselves with a wonderful restaurant dinner.

July 2, 2023 – Santa Ana National Park

We explored Santa Ana National Park on Sunday. We had a little fun with some offroading in the park.

Cheers, Chris
