August 3, 2022 – Crossing the Yukon River
In order to start the Top of the World Highway tomorrow, we first needed to cross the Yukon River. We stayed in a nice Yukon Territorial campground just across the river from Dawson City.
August 4, 2022 – The Top of the World Highway
Today we traversed from the Yukon to Alaska over the Top of the World Highway. The views along this highway are stunning and you do feel like you are on the top of the world.
In the afternoon we took an offroad branch off the highway to find a perfect place for tea time.
Late in the afternoon, we crossed over into Alaska, then dropped down to the town of Chicken in Alaska, where we stayed for the night. Some of the road had some scary drop-offs. There was one RV that went too far into the soft shoulder and almost went over. The highway was closed to get their vehicle back on the road.
