August 10, 2022 to August 18, 2022
August 10, 2022 – Cantwell, Alaska

We are traveling down the Denali Parkway to the Kenai peninsula. This is just a little tease of Denali to pique your interest for when we come back to Denali National Park at the end of August.

August 11, 2022 – Chugach National Forest

We have arrived on the Kenai peninsula. So we see the ocean once again.

August 12, 2022 – Captain Cook State Park

We have only had a few days of sun since we got to Alaska and the forecast calls for 10 more days of rain. Nonetheless, we are making the best of it. The comfort of our camper allows us to get through bad weather easily. We spent the night in Captain Cook State Park.

August 14, 2022 – Seldovia

We took a boat ride from Homer to Seldovia today. Saw some wildlife along the way – mostly birds. We have been surprised by the lack of birds in Alaska, but they are plentiful down by the ocean.

August 15, 2022 – Homer

We got some unexpected sun that wasn’t in the forecast today so we went for a hike. We got some fantastic views of Kachemak bay. We are camped in an RV park right in the middle of the Homer spit.

August 17, 2022 – Seward

Yesterday we drove to Seward. We are camped in the Seward municipal campground. For the first time since we left our wheels didn’t move today. It was our worst day for rain so we elected to hang out in the camper. We read books and Sue made chocolate muffins. Good day to just lay about.

August 18, 2022 – Kenai Fjords National Park

We did a short hike to the Exit Glacier from the Harding Icefield today. The Harding Icefield is massive but climate change spares no ice and the exit glacier is retreating. After our hike, we started the drive to Whittier, where we will catch a ferry to Valdez. We camped overnight in Moose Pass, which is about halfway to Whittier.

Moose Pass campground.

Cheers, Chris
