June 11, 2023 – Antigua

We had another stunning drive through the Guatemalan countryside with many beautiful views of lake Atitlan. Once we arrived in Antigua we had the most amazing burgers. Sue cherished every one of her carbs.

We started today with a doctor’s appointment for Sue to take care of a sinus/eye/skin infection. She is now on an antibiotic and an antiviral. She doesn’t want her picture published right now because her face is a mess. Then, we explored Antigua. It was a hot day and we were glad to have an air-conditioned Airbnb to refresh in. Antigua used to be the capital of Guatemala, but after repeated earthquakes, the capital was moved to Guatemala City. The city still bears the ruins of the earthquake in 1773 that prompted the move. So far, everywhere we go in Guatemala, we are surrounded by huge volcanoes. Tomorrow, we head to the Pacific coast of Guatemala for three nights on the beach.
